Amgros has now calculated key figures for 2023. They show that hospital pharmacies have procured medicines for Danish public hospitals totalling around DKK 9.419 billion. This corresponds to an increase of 1.5% compared with 2022, when we procured medicines for around DKK 9.278 billion.
Procurement in terms of volume (defined daily doses) increased by 0.7%. This means that prices on average rose in 2023 compared with 2022.
The most significant changes in the costs of medicines in 2023 were within ATC group L, which includes medicines to treat cancer and arthritis. Expenditure here rose by around 4% compared with 2022.
"Developments in cancer and arthritis medicines in particular have influenced to the overall trends in expenditure on medicines. This group of medicines comprises a very large part of the total expenditure; in fact close to 60% of the total procurement through Amgros,” said Flemming Sonne, CEO of Amgros.
In 2023, the discounts Amgros obtains in connection with tendering procedures or negotiations were around 48%. This means that the prices hospital pharmacies pay were 48% less than the list prices (AIP).
This is an increase of two percentage points compared with 2022. In terms of DKK, this corresponds to savings of around DKK 8.709 billion, which is an increase of approx. DKK 758 million compared with 2022.
